Sedation Dentistry in Newport Beach, CA

It is common for patients to experience fear or anxiety before receiving dental treatment. This can be the result of traumatic experiences, painful procedures in the past, or influence from movies and T.V. In order to make your visit more relaxing, we offer several types of sedation. Patients who visit Dr. Michael Almaraz may receive one of the following types of sedation dentistry in Newport Beach, CA:

  • Oral sedation
  • IV sedation dentistry
  • Nitrous oxide
  • Local anesthetic

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation does not involves any needles or injections. This is used for patients who experience mild anxiety or have trouble getting numb. About one hour before the appointment, you will be asked to take a small pill that will make you feel drowsy. By the time your appointment begins, you should be feeling very comfortable and euphoric. Once the procedure is over, you will be able to sleep off the effects of the pill, as they should only last a few hours.

IV Sedation Dentistry

IV sedation dentistry is effective for patients with moderate to severe anxiety. It involves administering drugs intravenously. This is more powerful than oral sedation because Dr. Michael Almaraz can control exactly how much of the drug is administered. After the procedure is over, most patients do not remember the experience at all.

Nitrous Oxide

This is one of the most commonly used methods of sedation. Nitrous oxide is a colorless and odorless gas that makes patients feel euphoric and relaxed after just a few minutes of inhaling. Once the gas is turned off, you will return to your normal state almost immediately.

Local Anesthetic

Local anesthesia is used to numb parts of the mouth before certain procedures are performed. It can be combined with other sedation methods to increase the intensity or length of the effects. In most cases, the effects of local anesthesia last only a few hours.

With our sedation options, you can comfortably receive the dental treatment you need without worry or anxiety. To learn more about IV sedation dentistry or other types of sedation dentistry in Newport Beach, CA, contact Dr. Michael Almaraz today!
